Call For Submissions

You are invited to submit high-resolution, high-quality, digital images to be considered for inclusion in The Slab Roller Book to be compiled and written by Daryl E. Baird, author of The Extruder Book (2000, The American Ceramic Society). Publication is targeted for July, 2011.

 

The images you submit should be of finished ceramic art or functional objects that were substantially made with the use of a slab roller.

 

Images on CD. Each photo should be in hi-resolution .jpg, .tif or other suitable format and copied onto a CD. Each CD should be labeled with the name, address and telephone number and email address of the submitter. Use an indelible marker. DO NOT attach paper labels to the CD.

 

Filenames. Each photo should be assigned a filename that contains the first letter of your first name and your last name followed by a sequential number.

Example: JSMITH001.jpg.

 

Captions. Each photo requires a caption. A separate file, in .doc format, containing the caption(s) should also be copied onto the CD. Each caption should begin with the filename to which it corresponds. Captions should be limited to fifty (50) words and should include the artist’s name,  residence location, a title or brief description of the piece, the year  it was created and decoration/firing technique employed.

 

Mailing. Package your CD carefully. You are encouraged to use a CD mailer. Address the CD mailer to:

Retain copies of the images you submit. CDs cannot be returned.

 

Acceptance.  You will be notified by regular mail or email if your photos are accepted for publication. Acceptance does not guarantee that your photos will be included in The Slab Roller Book.  Before publication you will be sent a release form. This form must be completed before your images can be published.

 

Submission Deadline: The submission deadline was November 30, 2009. Please contact Daryl via email at idahobaird@live.com to discuss late entry possibilities.

 

Updates. Upon receipt of your submission, your email address will be added to a list of those who receive periodic reports on the book’s progress. Be sure to include your email address.

 

Compensation. Neither those who created the objects photographed nor those who photographed them will be eligible for monetary compensation.  Both the person who created the object and the person who created the photograph, if not one and the same, will receive credit in the book.
