I don’t consider myself an artist. To me, an artist is someone who almost has to make or do things as a means of expressing pent up thoughts or feelings. A true artist interprets his or her surroundings and tries to share that interpretation with others. By that, John Lennon was a genuine artist; Ringo Starr was a drummer. Norman Rockwell was an illustrator.
On a wall in my shop I have a plaque with a quote by Louis Nizer that reads:
Almost every day I’m a laborer. But there are those days, those really good days, when the brain and the hands cooperate, that I can make well-crafted things that really please me. Lately I enjoy making clocks.

“A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.” |

We have learned to whittle the Eden Tree to the shape of a surplice-peg, We have learned to bottle our parents twain in the yelk of an addled egg, We know that the tail must wag the dog, for the horse is drawn by the cart; But the Devil whoops, as he whooped of old: "It's clever, but is it Art?" |
